Competition rules
01 Agreement
By entering our competitions, you agree to the following terms.
02 Start and close dates
Competitions open at midnight on the start date indicated on the competitions page. Competitions close on at 11.59 pm on the close date indicated on the competitions page.
03 Join our site first
To enter our competitions, you must first join our site. To join our site, click "Join", choose a username, and supply a valid email address. We will NOT use your details to "spam" you (see our privacy policy).
04 How to enter weekly competitions
To enter a weekly competition, following the instructions for the particular competition that are provided on our competitions page. Typically, you will be required to login and post a comment or question on our blog or forums. The best contribution wins.
05 Surprise competitions
In our sole discretion, we may from time to time award members a bonus prize as a small thank you for a contribution you have made to this website. These surprise competitions are in addition to our weekly competitions. The prize for these surprise competitions will be shown on our competitions page.
06 Judging criteria
Our competitions are games of skill. Chance plays no part in deciding the winner. The judges will decide the best entry by considering:
- originality (is your entry your own idea or have we heard it before?);
- creativity (is your entry conveyed in a novel and interesting way?);
- expression (have you checked your grammar and spelling?);
- time and effort (have you put much thought into your entry?); and
- entertainment value (how much does your entry amuse us?).
07 Judges’ decision is final
The judge(s) alone will decide the entry that best meets the judging criteria. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
08 The prize
Prizes are shown on our competitions page. If for some reason we can't supply the prize we intended, we'll give you a different prize (which we'll choose) to the same value of the prize we had intended to send you.
09 No cost to enter
Entry into our competitions is free.
10 Eligibility
- Only Australian, New Zealand, and UK residents can win our competitions.
- Our employees and their friends and immediate families cannot win.
- Entrants must have Internet access.
11 Multiple entries allowed
You may enter as many times as you like, so long as you:
- think about what you're writing;
- keep your entries on topic;
- do not submit the same entry more than once; and
- read and agree to our other website terms.
12 Notification and publication of winner
We will email the winner. We may also put the winner's name, entry, and State or Territory on our winners page.
13 Winner to supply contact details
If you win, you must claim your prize by giving us your name, phone number, and mailing address. We may need you to prove your identity and residency. You must claim your prize within 7 days of being notified that you have won. If you do not claim your prize within 7 days, we may declare the prize forfeited and award the prize to someone else.
14 Entries become our property
When you enter our competitions, you immediately and irrevocably assign all your rights in your entry or entries (including all intellectual property rights) to us, for free. You agree that we may use your entry or entries however we decide, free of any claim at all.
15 No liability
We will not be liable for any loss at all (including, without limitation, special, indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, or loss of profits), damage, expense, or injury that is suffered (however so caused) in connection with the competition or prize, except for liability that we cannot legally exclude. Where we cannot legally exclude liability, our liability is limited to our minimum obligations required by law, which may include, at our election, our replacement of the goods, supply of equivalent goods, re-supply of the services, payment of the cost of having the goods or services replaced or re-supplied, the repair of goods, or the cost of having the goods repaired.
16 Indemnity
By entering the competition, you indemnify us against all costs (including legal costs on a full indemnity basis), claims, awards, demands, judgments, damages, proceedings, and any other liability whatsoever, wholly or partly arising directly or indirectly in connection with the competition or prize.
17 Privacy
When you enter our competitions, we will use your personal information strictly according to our privacy policy.
18 Promoter
