What are "silly stories"?

Silly stories (or "mad libs") are fun ways to learn the parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, and so on).

What's this page used for?

We use this page to publish a series of silly stories called EdVentures. EdVentures are silly stories about the adventures of Ed Serenson, who is the fictional owner of this website.

How do I write an EdVenture?

You write each episode in our serial by choosing the words we use to complete each EdVenture. You can write an EdVenture in several ways:

1. By yourself, offline

  • Print the relevant episode and fill the blanks by hand, without looking at the script. Read the script aloud using the words you have chosen to fill the blanks.

2. By yourself, online

  • Open the pdf and type your answers in the blanks, without looking at the script. Read the script aloud using the words you have chosen to fill the blanks.

3. In a group (ideal for school students)

  • Choose one student for each blank. For example, if an episode has 15 blanks, choose 15 students. Ask your students to stand in a line. Ask each student to think of a word that fits their blank (do not show your students the script). Read the script aloud, pointing to each student when it's their turn to say their word.

Where are the scripts for each episode?

All the available episodes are published on this page (see above, "Episodes"). We publish a new episode every few weeks.
