Here is my list of the best five new books for 2010.
The Hunger Games Trilogy: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins is one of the best series of books I have ever read. With the newest published volume, Mokingjay, the whole story gains a new perspective. The last volume in the series will leave the characters changed, and the ending will leave you breathless. For those who haven’t read the first volumes, my advice is to buy them now. The story is set in the future, in a place called Panem, where every year a boy and a girl are put in an arena to fight for their life. The story is amazing, the characters’ personalities are well-drawn, and you will be totally absorbed by this book. The first volume was published in 2008; the latest volume was released in August 2010.
Solar by Ian McEwan is the latest book from the author who wrote Atonement and Amsterdam. The book follows the happenings in the life of Michael Beard, a scientist who won the Nobel Prize but didn’t do so well in his personal life, being at his fifth marriage. The book describes his past, his thoughts, and his decisions while he becomes bored of his life and wants to reconnect with his wife. The story was published in March 2010 and if you think the plot is kind of dull, you will be surprised at how amusing and entertaining the story really is.
So Cold the River by Michael Koryta should be your favorite pick if you love thriller or horror novels. The book starts with the filmmaker Eric Shaw who is supposed to make a movie about a millionaire. Problems begin when the town where he is sent to do the movie reveals some mysterious facts. The book was published in June 2010 and it’s one of the top horror books this year.
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is one of the Stephenie Meyer’s most anticipated books. The book follows the story of one of the characters from the Twilight saga and it will be very helpful for fans of the series to understand the characters in the saga. The book was published in June 2010 and one dollar from each book sold will go to the Red Cross. So, if you are a fan of vampires and want to help people too, or you simply want to understand the Twilight series better, I recommend this book.
Frankenstein: Lost Souls by Dean Koontz should be your pick if you like the Frankenstein novel by Mary Shelley. This is the story of Victor Leben, who was once Frankenstein and who must be stopped from transforming humans into monsters. The new humans will become part-human, part-machine, with the use of stem cells. Five people must stop his plan, but Victor Leben has a great ally and things won’t be easy. The book was published in June 2010 and it seems the author has an affinity for Frankenstein, since this is not his first novel on the subject.
