Children go through different emotions and experiences when they reach the teenage years. Adolescence is a very complicated time for many young people; your child is beginning to see the world from different perspectives.
The teenage years are when your child needs support. Encourage your child with books for teenagers that help your child in understanding their emotions and in appreciating different aspects of life.
1984
is a wonderful book for teenagers who like philosophy and politics. It’s also recommended in school; so your child will benefit a lot from reading it. The book was written by George Orwell and published in 1949. It depicts a world governed by a totalitarian regime. The main character is Winston Smith, an intellectual who dares to think in a world where thinking means death. 1984 is a classic that will entertain and encourage the teenage reader to raise some interesting questions.
The Catcher in the Rye
is a comical story written in 1951 by JD Salinger. The story is perfect for a teenager because it is about a teenager and it shows perfectly the frustration and inside torment that many kids this age go through. Your teenager will love the main character, Holden, who gets into some interesting situations that are not only tough to handle but also very comical.
The Count of Monte Cristo
is a wonderful adventure book published in 1844, which should be on every teenager’s reading shelf. I like this book especially because it has very interesting details and amazing descriptions; it can be dark at times, but it also has pleasant happenings and environments. The author, Alexandre Dumas, creates a great atmosphere by telling the story of an amazing revenge. When you read this book, you come to know a great historical period, from 1815 to 1838, which is beautifully portrayed. If your teenager is into adventure books and history, they will love this brilliant story.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
is one of those books your teenager won’t forget. The book is divided in small stories published in 1891–1892. This fascinating book can keep your teenage boy or girl thinking and resolving the smart puzzles Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has managed to create. The book is about a consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes, who finds great pleasure in solving criminal cases before the police do. His companion, Doctor Watson, makes the stories about the adventures even more interesting, by adding his medical touch and helping Sherlock solve the crimes. A teenager would find the stories witty and entertaining; the book keeps the teenage reader permanently connected with the story.

Lord of the Flies
is probably one of the most interesting books I have read and is definitely a book that I would recommend for my teenager. The great thing about this wonderful book written by William Golding is that the action and atmosphere grow almost imperceptibly. The reader doesn’t feel like the characters are doing anything wrong because the reader experiences the same things that make the characters react the way they do. This is why the book, published in 1954, is a masterpiece and an excellent book for teenagers.
