Word games provide a fun way to learn English. Try these games to learn the alphabet and to test yourself on some commonly misused words and phrases. Even native English speakers can enjoy these games because they test not only your English skills but also your reflexes!

While anyone can play the games, make sure you have joined the site and logged in before playing the game if you want to submit your score. From time to time, we will be giving away prizes to members who have achieved the highest scores!
The Vocabulary Game 2.0 (NEW)

The new and improved edition of The Vocabulary Game randomly displays 2 versions of a commonly misused or misspelled word or phrase — a correct version and an incorrect version. Click the correct version of the word or phrase to score. Go as quickly as you can. The game changes the selection of words and phrases each time the game is played. The game currently chooses from a database of more than 100 eggcorns and misspellings, with new words being added all the time.

Vowel Tester

Vowel tester
 In Vowel Tester, your job is to click on the vowels as quickly as you can. The quicker you are, the higher your score. Only click vowels, not consonants or numbers or symbols. Don't be tricked by some lookalike numbers and letters we've put in there to fool you!

 

Alphabetrax

In Alphabetrax, you move blocks of letters with your arrow keys. To score, match colours or letters or put letters in alphabetical order. Match 3 or more tiles vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. The more matches you make in a row, the more points you score. Earn bonus points if you can spell ALPHABET! But don't let the blocks pile too high or the game will end!

Alphabet Memory Game

AlphabetMemory.gif The Alphabet Memory Game is a variation of the classic memory matching games. Match a capital letter with its small-letter counterpart as quickly as you can. For example, match the uppercase "U" with the lowercase "u". Continue until you've found all the matches. This game helps you to learn the alphabet and also tests your memory!

Easy as ABC

Easy as ABC randomly generates 3 letters. Use your keyboard's left and right arrows to move the highlighted letter into alphabetical order or reverse alphabetical order. Press the space bar to lock in your answer before time runs out. The more quickly you place the letters into the correct position, the more points you score!

EasyAsABCD.gif Easy as ABCD randomly generates 3 or 4 letters in a vertical, diagonal, or horizontal row. The game also generates a single, extra letter that you must place in correct sequence. Click the blank square where you think the single letter belongs. The faster you go, the higher your score. But take care: make a wrong guess and your score will fall to 0. Make 3 wrong guesses and the game ends. If at any stage you're happy with your score, let time run out and your score will be submitted.

AlphabetMemory.gif Mad Libs are fun ways to learn the parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, and so on). We have our own Mad Lib serial that we call "EdVentures", which are silly stories about the adventures of Ed Serenson, the fictional owner of this website. You can create an episode in our serial, write an entirely new script for our EdVentures, or start a completely new serial of your own for the rest of the world to use! See our Hall of Fame for examples of finished stories. You might even see one of your stories illustrated there for you!
