Fun English games are an interactive pastime in which one can learn and have fun at the same time. There are numerous types of games — verbal, board games, computer games — and they can develop, according to the type of the game, your vocabulary, spelling, grammar, reading, listening, and even your knowledge of different subjects.

Verbal games usually imply communication between two or more players and have as the main purpose vocabulary development. An example of this type of game is The Suitcase. In this game, you have to name all the objects that can fit in a suitcase starting with a certain letter that was chosen by randomly stopping one of the players who was reciting the alphabet in their mind. These types of games have a dual purpose of socializing and passing time, as well as improving your English.

Another type of fun English game is the board game. The topics covered by the games are vast, from grammar to spelling to vocabulary. They usually focus on visual reconnaissance and manual use.

An example is the Crocodile Board Game. This is a dice-based board game, where the players roll the dice and move up the number of tiles the dice shows them. The game is customizable: in every tile, you can write questions about a certain English domain you want to practice. For example, if you want to practice the irregular verbs, you can write the present form and the player has to recite the other two forms, or they have to go back one spot. On the tiles, there are crocodiles and monkeys. If you land on the monkey tile, then you jump up a couple of tiles as indicated. If you land on the crocodile, then you go back to start. The winner is the player who finishes first.

Computer games are less sociable, but nonetheless preferred by many. They cover all the English types of exercises except speaking ones. A fun game is the Dragon Land Game. You have to help Wilma, Nadim, and Floppy win the “jeweled question mark” by clicking on the question in each “world”. It is interactive for kids in order to help them understand what a question mark actually is, while also discovering new worlds. The only negative aspect is that the game is quite short, so it is recommended that you use various games on the subject and that you guide your child through the game.

For adults, crosswords puzzles are the most popular way to help one improve vocabulary, as well as pass the time in a productive enjoyable way.

Fun English games are an accessible and interactive way of learning, socializing, and passing time.
