Learning or perfecting a new language implies effort and dedication, but this doesn’t necessarily imply monotonous hours with a textbook, a pencil and a dictionary, reading and re-reading dull texts, writing down new words, looking up the meaning in the dictionary, and trying to memorize the new words by reading them and then reviewing what you have just learned. Taken out of the context, words hold no beauty, but there are ways to stimulate learning English, no matter the level, with "Fun English".

For all levels, there are fun activities to do. In the case of beginners, picture association is essential since it is much easier to learn if you associate the word with the actual object than just imagining the word as a series of letters. There are numerous games and books that can be found on this subject. For example, the popular book, Funny English Errors and Insights: Illustrated, contains 32 humorous photographs that help convey the humor, and therefore the meaning of words, in funny student bloopers, funny media misprints, and funny signs.

Another way to improve as a beginner is by identifying words combinations. Word Web is an example of such an exercise. It is like spider web on which you can go from one line to another until you reach a goal, and that is a word.

Another exercise in the same domain is the scrambled word exercise where you should rearrange the letters so that it forms a word. Yahoo offers a similar game called Text Twist in which you must form all the words you can using six letters.

If you are already fairly good at English, you can still improve many of the English language sectors such as: vocabulary, grammar, sentence patterns, proverbs, slang and idioms, pronunciation, listening, reading, and spelling.

In order to improve listening, a popular example is reading a text while listening to the spoken version of the text. This improves your listening capabilities as well as your reading speed.

In sentence patterns, a popular fun English exercise is that of arranging the words so that the final sentence is correct. You can do this by using words that have a magnetic back, which you can then arrange and rearrange on your fridge or other metallic surface.

In proverbs, you can fill in selected words from multiple possibilities. Jokes are also a way to learn the English language, especially jokes in fields in which you do not have expertise, because they are easy to memorize: everyone remembers a good joke. So, with this, fun English can be accomplished.

Another way of fun learning is by finding an English author you like and reading their work. You will be captivated by their stories; your passion for reading will develop as well as your vocabulary and reading skills. English literature is a vast domain in every genre. Influential authors include Shakespeare, V Wolf, Steinbeck, and Salinger, just to name a few.

Learning or perfecting a language means work and devotion, but this also means that it can by done in a fun way, “Fun English”, which can be done by using your passion, imagination, and ingenuity.
