Fun learning games are probably the most attractive way for your child to learn, since your child will not always associate learning with “a task to be done so that I can get good grades”. Learning will not be associated in the child’s mind only with books and tedious hours spent away from all the fun activities their friends might be doing. Learning can actually be fun if the child is stimulated and the lesson is presented interactively and is not limited to continuous text with a couple of pictures.

By playing and learning, the child will assimilate the information more rapidly and they will remember the information for longer periods of time. The market in this area is growing rapidly and now you can find physical games as well as software. Software probably has a higher degree of attractiveness for children.

Fun learning games are on different themes such as introductory botany, zoology and anatomy, mathematics, geography, science, social studies, art and music, and word games.

Word games are the perfect way for your child to learn English. There are three main categories for the gradual evolution of your child’s learning: Alphabet Games, Vocabulary Games, and Spelling Games.

For alphabet games, an example is Whack-a-Mole. It is an old popular arcade game now available on the computer, where each mole pops up carrying a letter. You need to “whack the mole” in alphabetical order so that your child will learn the alphabet properly while having fun.

For vocabulary games, a good example is Clueless Crossword. It is a crossword game where some letters are given to you; when you go over the blanks with your mouse to guess another letter, the crossword shows where that letter appears in the other words in the crossword. In this manner, your child will increase their vocabulary and word perception.

In the spelling section, hangman is an old popular game that your child can play now on your computer. The hangman is usually a toy made by attachable pieces that come off if the letter guessed is wrong. The game usually has a series of 10 rounds, and if you guess a correct letter points are added; if you do not guess a correct letter, points are subtracted.

With the aid of fun learning games, you can stimulate your child’s thirst for knowledge and you can improve English vocabulary and improve spelling in a fun way. With fun learning games, your child will discover the beauty of learning and will not see it just as something he or she needs to do.
