Once you know the innate principles upon which speed reading works you'll find that it is truly elementary to learn speed reading. And the advantages are obvious.

If you're a student, you can get your work done in far less time than you would otherwise, and if you are a professional in any field that requires vast amounts of information to be gone through quickly and efficiently, the same applies.

Indeed, with the capabilities of speed reading at your disposal, your progress in any project you embark upon will be quicker, your goals far more within your reach, and your ability to rise in comparison with any competitors far greater. No-one can deny the incredible advantages of speed reading. The only issue one could have is how best to attain this ability.

Speed reading training begins with understanding first of all just where you stand. This means that you must not only assess your present level of ability, but, if that level is lower than normal, you must diagnose just why this might be so, and what you can do to correct it, and indeed, not only correct it, but increase your speed reading abilities to superlative levels.

Assessing your present level is extremely simple. Read any reasonable piece of text for around a minute and then count how many words you've read. That is your reading ability in WPM (words per minute). Once you know this, you know exactly where you stand.

Another advantage of this is that you can, as you practice and improve on your ability to speed read, continue to assess your progress. This has the added advantage of inspiring you to do better.

So what's the best way to go about learning the skills needed for speed reading? Well, that depends on your budget, of course. If you have a reasonable amount of will and dedication, you can easily achieve reasonable levels of speed reading ability simply by reading-up on speed reading programs on the Internet and putting the principles outlined there into practice.

Or you could sign up for some free on-line speed reading software courses – there are a few of them out there, and some of them are reasonably good.

However, if you really want to make considerable progress with speed reading, you should really purchase the best speed reading software or else sign up for a professional speed reading course in your neighborhood.

Speed reading courses that are situated near your house have the advantage of set times for practice (leading to increased practice and discipline) and of having personal oversight and instruction. This can be very useful, obviously, and can lead to lots of progress. Just make sure that the instructor is himself or herself a competent speed reader (as for a demonstration of this with text that you supply).

Software works even better, as software has the advantage of being interactive and multi-sensory. Not to mention that you can learn from software at home, at the office, and at any time.
