Humor books have one main goal: to provoke laughter or amusement for the one who reads it, to induce a pleasurable feeling. But humor books can also help you to learn, including learning English (see, for example, Funny Books; Funny English Errors and Insights: Illustrated).

Humor is the term used to denote any experience that produces laughter in the individual. Humor is something most people can experience and which can be met differently in all cultures.

But the way each one of us responds to humor is different. Humor is influenced by a large number of variables, such as age, gender, intellectual development, social background, culture, nationality, and geographical location. Because of this, people respond differently to humor. For example, many teenagers enjoy so-called “school humor”.

There are different types of humor; as people’s approach to humor is different, so the genres found in humor books are also different.

Some examples are: black comedy, which comprises deviant subjects like drug use and war and is often found in horror books; blue comedy, which has as its main topics sexism, racism, homophobic and sexual humor; and alternative humor, which may include satire, surrealism, and slapstick, which can be found in literature as well as comedic books.

In literature, humor can be attained with various methods such as hyperbole, metaphor, reduction ad absurdum, and timing.

Hyperbole is a figure of speech that consists of exaggerating some characteristics in order to create an emphasis.

Metaphor is a figure of speech, which consists of an analogy between objects or ideas to emphasize the characteristics of one of them.

Reduction ad absurdum disproves a given proposition by logically following that proposition’s implications to absurd results.

Timing consists of the rhythm of the narration that leads to bigger impact of the humorous moment.

So, humor books are a means of laughing by reading and by language. The English language, by its fullness and lyric, can easily stimulate the human mind.

The images that one can portray in their mind with the aid of words can lead to "situation humor".

"Comic of character" is usually used in the creation of every literature masterpiece and can easily be found in comical plays and books.

But "language humor" must be, in my opinion, one of the greatest forms of humor that language can bestow. An example of this may be the Parrot Sketch in Monty Python, where the word “death” in its many forms and expression can actually be humorous.

In summary, humor books are books that can make you laugh through language and imagination.
