Books are essential tools for students; books can help students by providing knowledge, understanding, different perspectives, and even entertainment. There are some books everybody should read when they are a student. Here are my top five books for students.

The Republic by Plato is an interesting, albeit dense, theoretical work and a must-read for deep-thinking students. It was written in 380 BC, but Plato's ideas are still intriguing today. If you are interested in politics and their mechanics, or ancient history, or philosophy and justice, then get yourself a good modern translation of this ancient text and put your thinking cap on!

A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations by Kate L Turabian will help students write and format their thesis or paper, especially if you follow The Chicago Manual of Style. The latest, seventh edition was published in 2007. The manual answers almost any question a student might have about writing a research paper or a dissertation. So, if you are having a problem with the citation of certain sources, or you just want help writing your final paper, this book may help you.

The Craft of Research by Wayne C Booth can help you if your final paper is a research paper or if you are conducting research and want to make everything perfect. Updated in 2008, this book is not only a helpful tool for students, from medical students to literature and sociology students, but also teachers, professional researchers, and anyone else researching and writing a research paper.

The Art of Learning: An Inner Journey to Optimal Performance by Josh Waitzkin was published in 2008; it's an autobiographical story. The reason why this book is a good book for students is that it can be very inspiring for students: the book is about someone who finds success in spite of all the challenges.

Student Stress: Effects and Solutions by authors Neal A Whitman, David C Spendlove, and Claire H Clark is another must-have book for students. Stress can reach high levels for students and the pressure can cause physical and mental problems, so managing your stress is very important. Published in 1984, this book teaches you what stress can do to your body and helps you overcome student stress.
